Nutrition is the key that unlocks your potential to compete as any athlete but in the fitness and bodybuilding world its vital. I have seen a lot of diet fads come and go over the years.
Everyone is different as far as there requirements go with the different amounts of foods i.e. grams of proteins-carbohydrates-fats and foods can vary in what types are being eaten depending on the person and if its pre contest or off season.

Protein-Chicken and Turkey Breast, Fish, Egg Whites
Carbohydrates-Yams, Sweet Potatoes, Rice, Oatmeal
Fats-Nuts, Flax Oil, Udos Oil, Olive Oil, Peanut and Almond Butter
Fibrous Carbohydrates-Boccolli, Green Beans
